Are We Really Surrendered? 2

As we near the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we have no better example of a surrendered life than His. Jesus’ whole focus in life was to fulfill the will of the Father. He was not here to gain popularity, get rich, live a comfortable life that avoided conflict, suffering or hardships. He was completely surrendered to accomplish His ordained purpose.
Even when faced with the unimaginable suffering of betrayal, mockery, humiliation, and crucifixion, He remained totally surrendered to completing the will of the Father.
His Surrender in the Garden
39) Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. 40When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
41) And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” 43) Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44) And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45) When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. 46) Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”
Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane
47) And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. 48)But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49) When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50) And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51) But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.
Here we see Jesus yielded, surrendered, and purposed to fulfill all the Father sent Him to accomplish through His death, burial, and resurrection.
He is our example. Although we fall short of His perfect life, we cannot do less than aspire to follow Him in loving surrender and obedience to the will of God. One day we will all stand before Him to give an account of our lives. Let us aim to hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
The Holy Spirit inspired the apostle Paul to admonish believers to be fully consecrated and surrendered to God.
13) And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Romans 6:13
1) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Is the Father tugging at your heart for full surrender? Have you avoided yielding your life completely to Him? May He continue to direct our hearts to obedience and surrender to His will, that we may be fully pleasing to Him, fulfilling His will.
Until next time, may God our Heavenly Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ richly bless and keep you.
