Sometimes, when helping my wife clean the house, I suddenly
notice areas missed on my initial cleanse. It might be after I vacuumed or mopped the floors, and usually becomes obvious when sunlight streams through a window nearby illuminating the area I thought was perfectly clean.
As the rays of sunshine highlight the surface of the floor, there’s a sudden and startling awareness of some previously unseen dirt or lint becoming visible. It’s a glaring fact causing me to wonder what else I may have missed.
The Bible says, “God is light.” (1 John 1:5) There is no darkness in Him. Therefore, everyone and everything is exposed in His Presence. Nothing can escape.
Thankfully, God is for us, and not against us. His light does expose our weaknesses and sins, but only so we can clean up our act, and align ourselves with Him and His purpose. He reveals these issues to heal us and not to kill us. He is a good Father and loves His children. He paid an unfathomable price to redeem us through the sacrifice of His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ.
Because He is Light, anything that is not pure, holy, righteous, or godly shows up as a stain, dirt, or soil. But thanks be to God, we can be cleansed of everything unpleasing to Him, through repentance and acknowledging our sin.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1John 1:9
What a wonderful promise He has given us! We can be cleansed of ALL unrighteousness through confessing our sins and turning to the Father for cleansing. When His light exposes an area of sin or unrighteousness in our lives, let us not run from Him, but to Him, confessing our sin(s) and allowing the blood of Christ to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (See 1 John 1:7).
How often have you thought or said something that suddenly grieved your spirit or conscience? You suddenly realize you have sinned and grieved the Holy Spirit. This is the time to immediately cry out to the Heavenly Father, even in your heart, for cleansing and forgiveness. Of course, if necessary, aim to make things right with those who may have been offended or wronged.
1) Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 2) Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
3) When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. 4) For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah
5) I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
6) For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. Psalm 32:1-6
An old Methodist hymn paints a vivid picture of the cleansing power of the blood of Christ.
1) What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Refrain:
O precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow.
no other fount I know.
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
2) For my pardon this I see:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my cleansing this my plea:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Live in the light of God’s Word and Presence. Run to Him for continual cleansing when you miss it in word, thought, deed, or negligence. He is ready to forgive and restore. Although we may suffer consequences on earth for our wrong actions, our Father will cleanse our record in heaven as though we had never sinned.
No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jeremiah 31:34
I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins. Isaiah 43:25
Until next time, may God our Heavenly Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, Who died and rose again for our sins and justification, bless, and keep you.
