In our last post we established the importance of the Word of God as our foundation. As we know the Word, we can more easily discern the ways the Father and the Lord Jesus speaks to us.
As we continue, let me again emphasize the importance of knowing God’s written Word, and aligning our hearts with what He has already said in the scriptures. If we do not hold the (logos) Word of God in high esteem, we will be led astray by our own frail and often faulty understanding, or led astray by the myriad of other voices in society that are vying for our attention and agreement.
Never in history has any generation been so bombarded with information, philosophies, ideologies, and distractions as ours. Mobile devices, smart TV’s, VR and AR technologies, and AI are just some of the new means of information overload plaguing society today.
This is why we must determine our faith and trust is solely anchored in what God has said. As it is written, “let God be true but every man a liar.” (Romans 3:4)
When we stand before the Lord, we will be judged by His Word, and not the word of some politician, movie celebrity, athlete, scientist, activist, professor or theologian. The standard is God’s Word, and this is the springboard for learning to understand the ways God speaks.
Weighing every voice by what God has already said in His Word is the foundation for understanding all the other ways He chooses to communicate with us.
Ask the Father for a renewed appetite for His Word. Let Him highlight new understanding to areas of your heart that need pruning, sanctification, enlargement, strengthening, holiness, maturity, or wisdom.
When He highlights the truths of His Word in your heart, and it leaps out to you as an epiphany, or flash of enlightenment and sudden clarity, you will know He is speaking to you. That is when His written Word (logos) becomes a spoken Word (rhema).
Follow these divinely inspired moments of revelatory insight and you will grow in your ability to grasp the other ways He communicates.
Until then, may God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ richly bless and keep you!
