The Invisible Realm 9

As we near the end of our study on the invisible (spiritual) realm, here are two wonderful testimonies of more recent angelic interventions.

Missionaries in Panama

A friend of mine, John Fenn, recounts a remarkable story of his two friends who became missionaries to Panama. Before embarking on their mission, they received a prophecy stating God’s angels would be released on their behalf and interact with them from time to time.

Everyone was excited for them, but the husband was quite sober knowing this prophecy meant they would be facing situations requiring angelic intervention and protection. He surmised the task before them would be challenging and dangerous at times.

The family’s mission site was in the dense rainforest and jungle at the end of the paved Pan-American Highway. which extends uninterrupted approximately 19,000 miles from Alaska to Argentina, except for a 100-mile stretch through the ‘Darién Gap.’ This was their location.

This section between Panama and Colombia is near impassable and currently lacks a continuous road connection. Due to a combination

of steep mountains, swampy lowlands, dense vegetation, turbulent rivers and waterways, plus hazardous wildlife, and extreme weather conditions, this region has earned the infamous reputation for being impenetrable.

One day the wife and children were returning home, when the car suddenly made a loud noise and stopped.

Hardly anyone travelled that part of the road, which was the only way in or out of this area. They were helplessly stranded. And at that time there were no cell phones, and no nearby towns. They were in the middle of nowhere.

The wife lifted the hood of the car and quickly realized the battery had exploded. Battery acid and loose wires were everywhere. There was no way the vehicle could start. She told the children they would have to pray for help.

Shortly after they prayed, a luxury sedan, similar to a Cadillac, pulled up behind them. Six young men, dressed in suits, got out and walked up to their car and asked if they needed help. The mother explained the situation, and one of the men asked her to open the hood so they could take a look.

She did so, wondering what they could possibly do to help. As she sat in the car, with her children, the six men gathered around the hood of the car. After a few seconds, they asked her to start the vehicle, and to her amazement, it started right away. She thanked them, and they returned to their fancy car and drove off ahead of her.

When she arrived home, she asked her husband if he had seen the luxury sedan and the men who had helped her. He assured her he had been out in the yard the whole afternoon, and no car had driven by.

It might be worth noting, their home was at the end of the paved highway, that required a 4-wheel drive to traverse the terrain beyond their home. The wife was puzzled because there was only one road, and the men had not turned around but went ahead of her car.

She explained her dilemma with the car, how she and the children prayed, and how the men suddenly appeared and helped them.

Her husband asked her to open the hood, and when he looked inside the engine compartment there were still broken wires and battery acid everywhere. There was no way, in the natural, the car could have started and continued to run for over an hour to get them home…but it did. Angels unaware? I believe so.

Deliverance From Evil

Jesus taught His disciple to include deliverance from evil in their petition to the Father. This could have a wide range of interpretations, but I believe it includes the intervention of the angelic host, as He Himself indicated on the night of His arrest (Matthew 26:52-54).

There are countless modern testimonies of individuals being delivered from danger, harm, and even death, through the ministry of angels. One involved a missionary and interpreter in Africa.

Two Missionaries Are Spared

The late Kenneth E. Hagin told the story of a missionary in Africa who took an interpreter with him to find a girl that was abducted by a tribe of natives. They were allowed access to the area where the girl was, but suddenly in the middle of the night heard a strange drum beat in the near distance.

This continued for some time with a growing intensity. When they inquired what it meant, they were told it was a death drumbeat, and no one lived after it sounded.

The two men decided to pray and go out in surrender to what seemed inevitable. The missionary closed his eyes and went out, expecting to be beheaded or killed immediately.

After a few seconds he opened his eyes and was amazed to find the natives kneeling and bowing before him. He later learned the natives had seen two giant angels with swords drawn around the missionary and his interpreter.

When the missionary returned to his home country and mission headquarters, a woman asked if he was in any type of danger or trouble on a certain night. He asked why, and she said the Lord had awakened her to pray for him in the middle of the night. She did not know what to pray for in English, so she prayed in the Spirit, in other tongues, for an hour or more until she felt a peaceful release of the burden in her spirit.

When the missionary compared the time of her prayer with the time of their peril, it was exactly when the angels intervened to save them from the native’s deadly intentions. God sent His angels to deliver these men from the ominous plans of the natives.

Do all these scripture passages and experiences seem like fantasy to you? Do you live for only what you can see and touch in the natural world? Or do you realize the invisible realm is eternal, unlike the physical world in which we now live in these bodies of clay?

The invisible realities of heaven and hell are tangible, and some day we will all be eternally part of one or the other aspects of that realm. Jesus Christ is the legal access into the heavenly realm, invisible to us now, but more real and wonderful than anything in this natural world.

Let us pray to be more sensitive and aware of the invisible realities of God’s Kingdom, the leadership of His Spirit (Romans 8:14, 2 Corinthians 4:18, Colossians 3:1-2), and the assistance of His angelic host (Psalm 91:11-12, Hebrews 1:14).

Although we have barely scratched the surface on the subject of the invisible realm, we will bring this series to an end next time. Until then, may God our Heavenly Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, richly bless and keep you.
