We have been establishing the importance of God’s Word for our lives. As emphasized in our last post, God places a tremendous value and significance on the words He speaks.
God’s Word accomplishes His purpose.
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
All things were made by the Word of God.
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Psalms 33:6
God’s Word is right, truth, and relevant.
For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth. Psalms 33:4
Jesus affirmed the Word’s vital role for His disciples as He prayed.
“I have given them Your word….” John 17:14
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17
God’s Word is established and settled.
The scripture repeatedly shows us the importance, and immutability, and inseparability of God’s Word from His character and nature.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalms 89:34
Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath…. Hebrews 6:17
Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Psalms 119:89
Do you know anything else in this world that is as holy, perfect, and unchangeable as God’s Word? Do you know of a book, apart from the Bible, which contains precise and detailed revelation of the past, present, and future? Do you know another book with a proven and accurate record of fulfilled prophetic proclamations like the Bible?
"Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed. Joshua 23:14
The LORD has done what He purposed; He has fulfilled His word Which He commanded in days of old. Lamentations 2:17
But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Matthew 26:56
Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: "THEY DIVIDED MY GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CAST LOTS." Matthew 27:35
There are hundreds of other fulfilled prophecies we could highlight that speak of kings and rulers before they were born and how they would affect history. To dive deeper into this subject, I encourage you to visit “Reason to Believe” at:
Jesus and the early apostles staked their lives and ministries on the Word of God. They were willing to defend its infallibility and inerrancy unto death.
Today many churches are falling away from a firm adherence to the scripture and instead are heaping up teachers that will tickle their ears with manufactured doctrines and heresies. They are following false apostles and teachers who tell them God loves them, so there is no absolute morality. We can live in an existential manner, choosing our own value system, and still enter into heaven when we die. This is apostasy, a rejection of the truth, and falling away from the faith spoken of in scripture.
1) I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ,
who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:1-4
They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.
Titus 1:16
What a horrible end! One translation even says, “unto every good work reprobate.” This comes when men and women harden their hearts to God’s Word and the conviction and nudging of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 3:7-11). They no longer have a sense of remorse or sorrow for their sins and wrongdoing and have become callous to the truth.
As believers, we are instructed to let the Word of Christ dwell in us with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs (Colossians 3:16) This includes the 'rhema' Words He speaks to us as we walk with Him, and the Words He has given us through the scripture.
Read, meditate, memorize, pray, and live by the Word (rhema and logos) of God. Ask the Father to enlighten your understanding of His Word so you can walk accordingly and flourish in every way. It’s the doers of God’s Word who will prosper.
If you have a desire to renew or strengthen your love for God’s Word, join me in this simple prayer today.
“Father, help me to love and cherish Your Word, the written and Living Word, above my own thoughts and ways. Cause me to continually grow in the knowledge of Your truth. Sanctify me through Your Word and incline me to daily renew my mind in Your ways. Thank You. In Jesus Name. Amen!”
We'll close out this series next time. Until then, abide in the Word, and may God our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, richly bless and keep you.
